“There’s no room for complacency here,” Rafael Mariano Grossi IAEA Director General, declared in his opening remarks to the Board of Governors during their meeting in Vienna.
Grossi reflected on his 11th trip to Ukraine since the onset of the conflict, where he met with President Zelenskyy, and highlighted his continued engagement with Moscow to bolster nuclear safety and security at the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant.
“Our regular reports and updates underscore the need to keep the global community informed while offering any support required,” he explained to the board. “You’ve likely noticed how vital this transparency is.”
He affirmed that the IAEA’s efforts remain fully aligned with United Nations resolutions and the board’s own directives, stating, “We’ll maintain this approach moving forward.”
The Vienna session of the Board of Governors also covered Grossi’s recent visit to Fukushima, updates on Iran’s nuclear program, progress toward gender equality within the IAEA, and other key topics.
